The new year weirdness

1) Remember, thieves often emerge from their slumber in autumn and are most energetic in the winter.


2) A mini-rash of cheesehead encounters lately. Besides the batch I met while on vacation in Bali, I ran into one at a New Year's Eve party; incidentally, he also happens to be a microbrew fan. And the next day, there was seemingly another one at the American microbrew bar as I was sharing a few bottles with friends.

3) Speaking of New Year's Eve, the view as fireworks went off on the various buildings in Central at midnight, as viewed from a friend's house in Wan Chai.



4) Speaking of New Year's, my local watering hole moved and opened on New Year's Eve. Except they have no liquor license until Jan. 12, at the earliest, so they can sell only soft drinks and coffee till then. Strangely, during my time here in Hong Kong, the quality of coffee available here has improved immensely, while the selection of tasty beers has improved just marginally. This needs to balance out.
